It is where the port officers work, and is a functional unit of the port.
Responsible for putting in place the resources needed to integrate the ship into the port complex and to ensure that the port authority is always on hand for ships and users.

It also has a policing remit, essentially conferred on it by the Transport Code.
Officers have a port policing role. They control and monitor port structures, buoyage, lights and the state of the seabed, as well as enforcing police regulations. They direct the rescue of vessels in danger.
Their missions cover a wide range of areas, from prevention and repression to the regulation of port traffic: they regulate the order in which ships enter and leave the port, allocate berths, monitor manoeuvres and order and direct movements.

They give orders to captains, pilots and boatmen in all matters relating to the movement of ships and the implementation of security, order and police measures.
Port officers are responsible for enforcing all general and specific regulations concerning the police and operation of the port.
